The Oil Absobing Material

The base material for all of our oil absorbing producs is the Reba oil-absorbent bark, exclusively made from the bark of specific Norwegian pine trees. The bark is a waste product from several Norwegian saw mills! No trees are harvested to produce this simple, but extremely efficient absorbent material for floating or stranded oil. It is 100% natural and totally hydrophobic. Consequently the Reba bark retains the absorbed material and quickly biodegrades to become a rich soil fertilizer. Once biodegraded, the resulting soil is so rich in nutrients, that truly is used by some customers in their flower beds!

Our Oil Absorbent actually turns oil into soil.

Because of the fact that the actual mass which is produced during the oil absorbing process is biodegradable, it can be deposited as ordinary waste at any approved waste site. This keeps cleanup costs considerably low. Most absorbents (including many natural materials) must be treated as hazardous waste once they have absorbed oil. Reba bark removes floating and stranded oil by absorption onto oleophilic material. Reba bark is very useful for revovering oil sheens. It even removes gasoline spills.

Mobile Bark Spreader: A smart solution for harsh clean-up conditions!

The Mobile Bark spreader is an ideal tool for oil spill recovery operated in harsh weather conditions. Its mobility allows for operations in sensitive areas that are normally impossible to access with heavier equipment. Reba bark removes floating and stranded oil by absorption onto oleophilic material. Reba bark is useful for revovering sheens, even for gasoline spills. This Mobile Bark Spreader is designed for use with completely dry, fine bark, such as Reba bark. The spreader disperses the oil-absorbent bark evenly and effectively on both land and water. It works just as effectively in windy conditions and makes it easier to spread the bark in areas that are difficult to reach. At maximum speed, the spreader can disperse a 50-litre sack of Reba bark in only three to four minutes.

The spreader is carried on the back like a backpack, which distributes the weight and makes it easy to maneuver. The lightweight system, including a 50-litre sack of Reba oil-absorbent bark, weighs approximately 20 kg. It is also easy to use. Simply start the spreader, aim the extendible tube at the oil and attach a sack of Reba bark.

They are also used as a preventive measure in factories, oil refineries, garages, or on ships, boats and vehicles. The components of the Abtek oil-absorbent boom are biodegradable, even after having absorbed oil, and it may be disposed of at approved waste site for oil-polluted waste.

The Reba bark is the core material of our oil absorbing booms. Discarded wool from the textile industry reinforced with jute provides a very environmentally friendly and durable outer layer. The booms can lie in water over a long period of time, and they will continue to absorb oil into the bark core. Our booms come in a range of standard sizes, but also can be tailor-made to better suit your needs. Besides the fact that they are made of 100% natural materials and absorb oil, the most important feature is that the boom's weight always keeps one third of it under water, even under rough weather conditions. This prevents any of the oil from escaping. The boom can lie in water over a period of time, and it will continue to absorb oil into the bark core, even though the wool felt is soaked with water. Again, water does not affect the boom's ability to absorb oil. Our oil-absorbent booms come in a range of standard sizes and can also be made to order. We also produce an oil boom with carabine hook grips and marker ties, which ensure that the boom is completely tight at the connection points. This boom is especially suitable for use in very rough water.

Mini Booms are a smaller version of the oil-absorbent booms used for oil spill control. They can be be used in the event of an oil leakage, or as a preventive measure in factories, oil refineries, garages, as well as on ships, boats and vehicles.

ABTEK oil-absorbent mats are made from our Reba oil-absorbent bark, jute and discarded wool. As all of our other oil absobing products they are they're 100% natural. They can be used in the event of an oil leakage, or as a preventive measure in factories, production, oil refineries, garages, as well as on ships, boats and vehicles.

Our oil-absorbent mats are available in various sizes and have been thoroughly tested by the Esso oil refinery in Norway. The mats were used to build a dam around a 50 litre oil spill on concrete. Used together with Abtek bark, the mats absorbed the oil completely within 15 minutes.

ABTEK can produce custom-made oil-absorbent mats made from Reba oil-absorbent bark, jute and discarded wool. For example, oil-absorbent beach mats can be made according to customer specifications, so that in the event of an oil spill at sea, they can be placed at the water's edge to prevent oil from coming onto the beach.
